On Feb 13th during pre-race warm-up at the Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham, AL; I approached Curtis Workman of St. Louis, Missouri. At random, I asked if we could interview Curtis because off-camera we briefly got into conversation that Curtis was running 52 marathons in 52 weeks. The interview was spontaneously unrehearsed but firmly planted a seed that would blossom at mile 14 of that race. “Thats it! and WhyMarathon.com was born..” Everyone has a Why. How many “Curtis Workman’s” are there in the world? How many ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Curtis is doing amazing things with his charity Marathons With A Mission. After our interview, he mentioned that he had to make the 8.5 hour drive back to St.Louis, MO from Birmingham, AL in order to work at Home Depot at 5am on Monday morning. As you can see from his website, he sometimes gets his race registration comped but for the most part he is doing this entire operation on his own dime. Expensing the whole thing out of his own pocket. It is people like Curtis Workman that inspire others to do amazing things. As he mentioned in the video he was headed to Austin TX the following week and another one thereafter.

Thanks Curtis for inspiring us to take Massive Action as well!
