Don Rice went form weighing 198 lbs to weighing 162 lbs through his efforts in running. Like many others, he had set the initial goal to train and just complete one marathon but once he got a taste of the finish line he was hooked as he said in the video. Don credits his marathon successes to the training administered to him by the folks at the Galloway Program that encouraged him and coached him along the way on proper fueling and race strategy. He said they were big on running a smart race and not going out too fast too early in the marathon for fear of hitting the wall. He mentioned that it was this pacing strategy that helped him to conquer the notorious Heartbreak Hill in Boston in his Boston Marathon debut a few years ago.
Don went on to explain that any and all health issues that he had before he began training for the marathon have since dissappeared and he credits his better vision as well as better health to running marathons. He said he is fortunate because he isa a able to run during his lunch break at work. Often times he will come into work and then at lunch go for a run… upon returning from the lunchtime run he claims that he feels better than when he first got to work in the morning.
This finisher footage was filmed at the finish of the 2011 Kings Mountain Marathon put on by race director Jefferson Nicholson.
